fund us
We need the support of benevolent donors to carry out our Humanitarian activities. We do not sell anything for profit. All the donations received are fed back into the system to provide the services and develop it. Progress made by the Meththa Rehabilitation Foundation during the last 25 years is plain to see. Our motto, “Waste Not-Want Not” which underpins our strong recycling strategy helps a lot in providing our very cost effective services.
How do we fund our services?
We derive legitimacy to raise and utilise funds in Srri Lanka by virtue of our registeration with the Government of Sri Lanka as a Limited Liability Company and a Memorandum of Understanding agreed with the Department of Health..
There are several ways in which we raise funds. All of these are through Public, Corporate and individual grants as follows.
- There is a scheme under the Social Services Disability Directorate which enables a disabled amputee person who receives Govt Income Support to claim Rs 50,000 towards an artificial limb. We claim this from Government through a stipulated pathway.
- All the services in the Vanni region are fully funded by two organisations named Manitha Neyam Foundation UK and the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Jaffna which manages funds from the.Lebara Foundation
- We apply and secure moderate sized International Grants for designated projects. Rotary Foundation funded establishment of Balapitiya Centre and purchase of some large machines through a Global Matching Grant in 2024, which was completed successfully..
- Many people who have the means to fund their services do so voluntarily. They probably realise that our service is unmatched for Quality and Cost.
- People opt to donate the cost of an artificial limb to commemorate an occasion such as a child’s birthday or a parent’s death anniversary.. This money is used to serve the low income people and the elderly who do not qualify for Social Service grants.
You can also consider selecting a special occasion to make a donation and help our humanitarion effort.
How do we spend our funds?
Our financial transactions are transparent and well governed. We report to relevant government agencies quarterly and submit externally audited reports annually together with Annual Reports. Our Company Secretaries overseas all financial activities and our dealings with the Registrar of Companies..
We do not record any profit. Any surplus from donations is ploughed back to develop the services, for Research and Development activities and to develop our infrastructure. None of our Directors receive salaries except out of pocket expense reimbursement.
Our annual budget in Sri Lanka is in the region of SLR 30 Million. Funds are disbursed in the following manner.
- Salaries and Wages which require around Rs 1.2 million monthly. We also contribute to EPF and ETF which is another Rs 150,000 or so every month
- Purchase of consumables
- Services such as electricity, water, telephone and postage and Income Tax.
- Maintenance of Plant and Machinery and buildings maintenance
- Mobile clinic expenses such as travel costs, fuel, subsistance and extra duty payments
IN addition, our parent UK Trust collects and spends nearly GBP 20,000 annually for collection of donated equipment, purchase of expensive equipment not available in Sri Lanka and shipping those in large containers about twice aannually.
